Change your perspective...

Nicholas Fogelsonger | Amateur Drone Photographer

I am an amateur drone photographer and enthusiast who currently flies & shoots with a DJI Mavic Air 2. Since purchasing my first drone in 2015 I've been hooked on the exciting views from above and have upgraded to better quality and more expensive birds numerous times (to my wife's dismay). I have a love of landscape photography and feel the perspective found from high above adds a new element & beauty not typically seen standing on two feet. All photographs within this website were taken, edited, and have been copyrighted by me.

The majority of my work here is from this love of aerial photography however I also have other photograph collections from traditional cameras.

I am available upon request for both video and photo sessions. I have worked with Realtors previously taking aerial photographs of their listings for that unique look to capture a prospective buyer's eye.

Prints and/or digital copies can be requested for purchase. An online store will be coming soon to my website but for now just submit your inquiry under my 'Contact Info' page and please include the name & number of the photo (Photo Description).

Think you have a good recommendation for a potential stunning photograph? I'd love to hear from you!

Please reach out with questions, comments, or requests.

Background

The Pilot

For me, my hometown will always be Silver Spring, MD where I grew up. In 2002 I graduated as part of the last official class of Elon College in North Carolina (Go Fighting Christians!) before it officially transitioned to Elon University.

Currently my wife, myself, and our amazing two boys reside in Germantown, Maryland.

The Bird

Currently I fly & shoot with a DJI Mavic Air 2. A solid camera (48MP), great flight time (35 minutes), enough sensors to fly in a virtual bubble, and plenty of camera & video settings to capture the perfect shots. This bird is such a joy to fly. It allows me to fly further, faster, and longer while shooting 4K video and capturing great photographs in the process.

My interest in drones (quadcopters) started in 2015 and like most I started with smaller, more simplistic models. After a year or so I made the decision to upgrade to one of the big boys, a DJI Phantom 3 Standard. After three months I managed to crash it into a tree, totaling it (Ouch! Check it out on the Video page). Somehow I convinced my wife to let me get a replacement (thanks Honey!). Around a year later I sold the Phantom realizing that I needed something smaller and more portable. First came the DJI Spark, then the Mavic Pro Platinum and finally the Mavic Air 2. And of course after two years with this, I'm ready to upgrade again!

Why TwoRedSox Photography?

I often get asked how a kid from Maryland became such a huge Boston Red Sox fan. Simple. College.

But you said you went to college in North Carolina! True. And that is where I met some guys from New England, real die hard Sox fans with a love of beer & baseball and a disdain for the New York Yankees. They introduced me to Pedro Martinez and the rest was history.

From my love of the Red Sox came my first tattoo of simply, Two Red Socks, more commonly known as the Sox logo (Got this after Aaron Boone knocked us out of the 2003 ALCS. We later got our revenge in 2004). The tattoo became my staple. From there it led to my email address, a license plate, and eventually my photography website.

Lucky McWhiskey

So who then is Lucky McWhiskey? Well that's me too. The Irish in me has always loved St. Patrick's Day. And being a short, bald, bearded Irish dude I made a tradition out of becoming a full leprechaun each holiday, from the buckles on my shoes to the pouch full of gold to the crafted & dyed beard. I have no idea how or why my wife puts up with me...

Every leprechaun needs a good name. Being a whiskey aficionado was the added bonus.

Lucky McWhiskey Woodworking came about thanks to Covid and our initial lock down. Needing something to do to help occupy the time I started playing around with making various things I'd see on Instagram. The first project was the robot liquor dispenser you can find on this site. I was going to Home Depot so much my wife would joke I must be having an affair with an employee. Ha! From there it was making shelves, tables, and anything else that caught my eye. Then came the racing boards! After playing a similar game at a friends house and then realizing how expensive it was for a simple game, I decided, "I can make that".

Once others saw and played the game they too wanted in on the fun and their own set. (It probably helped that most of my friends also enjoy drinking good bourbon while finding things to gamble on...) Through the years the sale of racing boards went to upgrading my tools and skill set, always looking to improve and find something new to create. I am by no means a carpenter or advanced wood craftsman but I have found a new love & hobby in woodworking. From the cuts, the sanding, the staining, and sometimes the burning, I love making a finished product that I can be proud of knowing, "I made that".
